Fillings

Dental Fillings in Tunbridge Wells

Fillings are one of the most common dental treatments but the very mention of the ‘F’ word still strikes fear into many. However, what is not clear to many people is that fillings have changed quite significantly over the years. Our dentists at Warwick Park are trained to be as gentle as possible and also offer a range of modern materials as an alternative to the traditional amalgam type.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam fillings are still used extensively as they are hard wearing and cheaper than some of the modern alternatives. However, there are two main downsides to consider 1) the amalgam filling is a dark silver colour which is not ideal for a visible position and 2) there is a debate about the suitability of amalgam because it contains mercury. Whilst this is bonded to the amalgam and has been announced as safe by the FDA and BDA, some people prefer to avoid it.

Cosmetic White Fillings

The modern alternative to amalgam fillings are referred to as cosmetic white or natural tooth coloured fillings. These fillings are made from composite resins or ceramics and whilst not quite so hard wearing as amalgam, are aesthetically pleasing and do not contain any mercury.

Our dentists will be pleased to discuss the options with you.
